Analysis of X5CrNi18-10 (AISI 304) Steel Susceptibility to Hot Cracking in Welded Joints Based on Determining the Range of High-Temperature Brittleness and the Nil-Strength Temperature

The conducted research of X5CrNi18-10 (AISI 304) in the DSI Gleeble 3500 device aimed to determine tensile strength this steel at elevated temperatures, simulating welding-like conditions while sensitizing liquation cracking. defined High-Temperature Brittleness Range (HTBR) made it possible whether material is susceptible hot cracking, which can significantly affect weldability structures. Nil-Strength Temperature (NST), with an average temperature 1375 °C, was determined through a thermoplastic test, where samples were pre-strained and subsequently heated. After NST tests, no necking or plastic elongation analyzed noticed. fracture brittle low force 0.1 kN, indicating value (represents upper limit HTBR). lower HTBR (assumed occur relative 5%) by heating 5 °C than then cooling them specified temperature. Once reached, subjected testing that temperature, percentage (Z) (A) measured loss. This work indicates estimated Ductility Recovery (DRT) slightly 1350 has small HTBR, approximately 15 during close 25 cooling, suggesting minimal tendencies form cracks.
